Message From The President
By David Willis Jr.
Brother and Sisters, for the past several months the Executive Board has received numerous requests to find a larger meeting place and one more centrally located. I want to start out by saying our hosts, the AMVETS, have been a great friend in helping us out in our time of need. If not for their generosity, we may not have had as much success as we have had. However we are currently in need of a larger and more centrally located facility.
At the request of the membership in attendance at the October membership meeting, I appointed the Executive Board as a building committee to investigate and report back to the membership an alternative meeting place. Several members of the Executive Board met with the leadership from the American Legion Post #4 in Mt Clemens (The Jet Bar) located on Groesbeck Highway just south of Elizabeth Road.
During that meeting the American Legion Post #4 extended an invitation to hold our monthly meeting at the hall next to the lounge. I know many of our members are familiar with the jet bar and have seen the inside of the upstairs hall. For those of you who haven’t, it will accommodate at least 125 people very comfortably, as many of you know we have anywhere around 50 to 85 people attend our monthly meeting. They ask only $25.00 to help with the cost of the clean up after the meetings.
The Executive Board will report and recommend to the membership at the November meeting that we move to the American Legion Post #4 in Mt Clemens starting in January 2005.

From the Executive Board
The State FOP 2005 Super Raffle has been changed: A Lodge must now sell one raffle ticket for each member in order to receive the $10.00 back, per ticket sold. This would mean we have to sell at least 345 tickets and the Lodge would then get back $3450.00.
This is a great fundraiser for us! We need every Member to try to buy a ticket and for our Associate Members to step up and buy some also. The Grand Prize is a 2006 Dyno Glide Harley-Davidson Motorcycle or $15,000.00 in cash. This goes along with a 2nd prize of $2,500.00 and a 3rd prize of $1,500.00. Don’t forget there are also 730 daily $25.00 prizes and 52 weekly $50.00 prizes. Even if you win, your ticket is thrown back into the barrel. You can get tickets from Dennis Tomlian, Keith Ray, Dan Willis or Dave Willis. For Members that can’t get to a meeting or see one of us, we can mail tickets to you, just mail a check made out to the Lodge to:

Secretary’s Report
By Matt Pecha
I sent in the 2005 first half per-capita to the State Lodge that was due a week ago. This means I should have the 2005 dues cards by the end of November. Members that wish to get their cards at the December meeting or have them mailed to them can pay their dues for 2005 anytime after the November meeting. The dues are $54.00 for regular, $64.00 for Associates and $25.00 for our retired members.
The membership currently stands at 332 with 289 regular and 43 associates. |
Treasurer’s Report
By Dennis Tomlian
I hope everyone had a great summer. These are exciting times for our lodge as we are moving forward and gaining membership. As you have read, the executive board has negotiated with the American Legion Post #4 on Groesbeck (Jet Bar) to start having our monthly meetings there.
I also want to thank the AM VETS in New Haven for their hospitality towards us over the last couple of years, but our growth and the comfort of our members dictates a larger facility to hold our meetings at.
Financially we are doing well. We made a nice profit of $10,093.00 from the golf outing, making the two-year total from Keith’s golf outing to just over $18,000.00. I would like everyone to know what a great job Keith Ray did with the golf outing. Keith works his heart out on the outing, which makes it’s a success. Thank you again Keith!
By the direction of the executive board I have opened two CDs (not music) for $5,000 each, one for six months and one for 12 months, both at the Credit Union.
Remember Christmas is around the corner and those $20 Supper Raffle tickets make a great stocking stuffers so everyone step up and buy the gift that gives all year long, plus help your lodge financially as we get a nice return if enough tickets are sold.

Most members are aware that there is some monetary benefit with being a member of the FOP, this being the Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance. What I’m sure you didn’t know is that due to some recent changes you will not get the full $2000.00 unless a new form is on file with PLEA, the insurance carrier for this benefit. If you wish to receive the full amount entitled to you, you must fill out an insurance form; otherwise the benefit is cut by ½ to just $1,000.00.
There have been some questions as to the eligibility of Associate members in this program. After checking with Art Dickinson of PLEA, I have discovered that Associate members are eligible and have full entitlement to these benefits, as long as there is a form on file with them. |
