Message From The President
By Dan Heythaler

Now that summer is here, we can start looking forward to enjoying the outdoors more. Besides the “honey-do” list that has to be done, you can look forward to several different events with the lodge.

First there is our 6th annual cookout to celebrate our anniversary. It will be held on Wednesday July 11th at 6:30 p.m. The meeting is being held on the second Wednesday because of the 4th of July holiday. It is also starting an hour early because we plan on having a short meeting and a great social get together afterward. We are also honoring several St. Clair Shores officers with the “Officer of the month” award. We will have lots of eats including brauts, hot dogs and hamburgers on the barbeque. We are trying to reserve the horseshoe pits for our members and have a couple of card games going after the meeting. This is always a great time for old friends to get reacquainted with each other.

The second event is our lodge’s annual golf outing in September. This is the biggest fundraiser for our lodge. Vice President Dave Willis is heading up the golf outing and needs your assistance. You can help by getting a foursome to golf, help at the golf course during the outing, getting donations for prizes or getting hole sponsors. Specific information about the outing can be obtained at the meeting or by contacting any board member. This is a huge job and everyone’s assistance is needed to make it a success.

Several of us attended the FOP state convention June 22-25 in Sault Ste. Marie. We attended the meetings on Saturday and Sunday and did some social networking at the “evening gatherings”. There were other activities scheduled for attendees, such as a dinner boat cruise, golf outing and some entertainment at the casino.

I’m not much of a gambler but I did take the boat cruise through the Soo Locks and shot a round of golf with Denny Tomlian, Mike Burns and Emmett Barnes. We all had a great time and learned a lot from the meetings we attended. Brother Barnes will give you an update about the convention at the next meeting.

Also Brother Cowan and Brother Scherer have taken over that FOP apparel orders. They put together a great looking organizer with all of our current apparel in it. It will be available at every meeting. If you wish to order a shirt, jacket or hat, they were told they can get it made and delivered within a month.

Brother Barnes has stepped up and will be in charge of ordering food for our monthly meetings. Remember that the $5.00 donation you pay at the door is to off set the hall rental, food and drink at the meetings. Also if you know of a business that would like to be on our list to supply our meeting with food, let Emmett know. The more businesses we have, the more diverse menu we can offer to you.

Finally I hope that everyone has a great and happy summer. See you at the next meeting!

Secretary’s Report
By Robert Stanley

To date there are still 39 people that have not paid their dues. Remember we pay all dues in November for the following year, so if you have not paid your dues please send then in.

I have ordered license plate tabs as well as several other items from the Grand Lodge. They should be inventoried and out at the July meeting.

The new web site for the Grand Lodge is: www.fop.net. Please go onto the site and log in to make sure your information is correct. If you move, you can change your address at that site which will ensure that you keep getting the newsletters without interruption. The Grand Lodge would like all those with computers to log onto the site and do this.

We attended the State Convention this past week and one thing that was discussed is that the Grand Lodge is going to ask, at the National Convention, to raise our dues $3.00 over the next two years due to the decline in donation and other revenue sources. We will vote on this at the conference. This brings us to our lodge dues. We have not raised our lodge dues since we started and they have gone up $2.00. If the dues raise passes at the National, we may have to discuss this topic at our lodge. With over 300 regular members the cost to us is over $1500.00 less we bring in over a years time.

Treasurer’s Report
By Dennis Tomlian

Brothers & Sisters,

Hard to believe 2007 is half over. I hope everyone is doing well. We have lost some members due to deaths and those requesting to be dropped, but we are still in good shape. I would like to see our recruiting efforts expanded in the coming years in an effort to build our membership; we need all members to try and recruit one new regular member from area departments that do not belong to a FOP lodge.

We still have members that have not paid their dues this year. We have already paid the per capita to the state and national in the amount of $6000.00, so we need to have all the dues in so we do not lose money. The lodge certainly does not want to drop members, but if the dues are not paid soon we will have no choice.

I will be getting together with our tax advisor to file the paperwork to change our fiscal year to coincide with the calendar year starting in January of 2008.
Our annual golf outing will be in September this year at Greystone. Our Vice-President Dave Willis deserves a lot of credit for getting this great venue for our outing and for a very good price. We need everyone to step up and either get a foursome or two or some hole sponsors. Remember the money made at the golf outing supports our charities.
