Message From The President
By Dan Heythaler

As my term comes to an end, I must thank everyone for the support and trust they have given me. This includes my executive board and lodge members who have always been there for me when I have called on them for anything. Denny Tomlian has my full support for the position as president. We all know Denny as our current treasurer and past lodge secretary. I have also known Denny personally for over 25 years. His integrity and ethic are beyond approach. He will serve and represent us well as president. Denny mentions in his article that the dues are due and that if they are paid before December 31st you will pay the 2007 rate. If you wait until after that you will have to pay the higher rate.

I have to remind you we will be having the election for board members at this month’s meeting. We will also be voting on the change in our by-laws. The change will effect the term of board members from one year to two year. I stated at the meeting when this was brought up that I am opposed to this idea. I believe if the membership is not supportive of a person in one of these positions, the membership can vote him/her out at the end of the year. If any of you have been around for the past six to seven years, you know what I am speaking about. There are also ways in our by-laws and constitution which gives the board and membership to remove a board member. But realistically it is cumbersome and this type of procedure can be embarrassing to anyone involved. As I have said before, this is your lodge and you should decide how long you want your board members to be in office.

Lastly, you will still see me around as past-president. I have enjoyed and appreciated my time serving you as president, vice-president and sgt-at-arms. I will always be proud of my service to the lodge and being a member of the greatest FOP lodge in Michigan.

State Treasurer’s Message
By David Willis Jr.

This coming year is going to be a busy one at the state level. The mid-board meeting will be held in February/March, the state lodge golf outing at Greystone Golf Course in May, and the state conference in June. This year will also be a special one, as for the first time in our state FOP history we will be hosting a National FOP Board Meeting in the city of Detroit. In conjunction with this we will also be hosting the Eastern Stated Meeting both are a first. This will take place in mid September.

The state lodge will be asking lodges for their help in making this a success. Things that will be looking for; drivers to shuttle the people around, bar tender(s) for the hospitality night, and several other functions to be announced. I hope we can participate in a few as our lodge has been very active at the state level since we chartered in 2002. These two events will bring in 250 to 400 plus members of the FOP from around the county to the city of Detroit.

Secretary’s Report
By Robert Stanley

The lodge per capita for the year 2008 has been paid for all members at the beginning of November. The 2008 dues cards should be coming in soon and will be sent out as the dues are paid. Last year it took until July to get all the dues paid. This year try and remember to get them in as soon as possible. I have enjoyed my time as your secretary and look forward to serving as lodge Vice-President.

Remember when sending in your dues to include $20.00 to buy a super raffle ticket. This is our only other fundraiser besides the golf outing and we need to sell one per member to get $10.00 back for each ticket sold. The ticket will be filled out and the stub will be given to you with the dues card. We have only sold 75 ticket and we need to sell 356 of them, so please purchase one to help support the lodge.

Treasurer’s Report
By Dennis Tomlian

Hope everyone had a good summer. The National conference in Louisville, Kentucky was very informative and interesting. The Jefferson County Sheriff FOP Lodge did a fantastic job in hosting this event. They really went all out exhibiting real southern hospitality. My report contains bad news and good news. The bad news is that the National rose the per/capita tax $3.00 and the State has risen the per/capita $1.00. Our dues have not been raised since our inception, but costs have escalated every year. After much soul searching the board agreed to raise the 2008 dues. The new dues structure will be as follows: Active members from $54 to $60, Associates from $64 to $70, and Retirees from $25 to $30. This increase in dues will help maintain our current level of service to our members. Now for the good news, if members pay their dues prior to January 1, 2008 your dues will be at the old rate, if you pay dues after January 1st you will have to pay the new rate. So pay your dues early and avoid the increase until 2009.

I am looking into obtaining the equipment so we may be able to accept credit cards for the payment of dues and anything else the lodge sells shirts, jackets, cups, mugs, etc.

Remember pay your dues early and SAVE MONEY!
