Message From The President
By Robert Stanley

Fellow Lodge Members of Lodge #187,

First and foremost I want to thank our members for their support and faith in me. I would also like to thank Ron “Kappy” Kapuscinski for all his hard work as chairperson of the recent fundraisers, as well as all the members of the executive board.

I would like to invite all our members to attend the July meeting. Some of the topics we will be discussing are the upcoming family picnic set for August 22nd to be held at Brandenburg Park in Chesterfield Twp., upcoming raffles, the final Texas Hold’em event, etc.

Our Lodge can be whatever its wants to be, as long as continue to work together. I would like the associate members to become more active; after all, you are all a large part of the group. We are currently looking into starting up an associate lodge, and we would greatly appreciate your input.

I would like to end with a heartfelt thank you to all members for your continued support.

Brothers and Sisters:

It has been a busy first half of the year. I would like to acknowledge Brother Jimmy Stanley, because of his incredible gift of his kidney to his dad, Bob is enjoying his family and his life. I would also like to thank Trustee Ron Kapuscinski and Brother Gary Budchuk for getting our Lodge involved with the Texas Hold’em Charity Houses. Because of their determination, we have hosted three successful Texas Hold’em Tournaments. We raised a considerable sum of money now dedicated to getting a Lodge of our own. We will be hosting one more Texas Hold’em in December this year, and we welcome any volunteers. There is a lot of work and any help would be appreciated.

We held our first raffle on April 1st, which was the 42 inch Panasonic Plasma flat screen TV. Brother Al Moroschan was the lucky winner. We are in the process of holding our second raffle which will be drawn at our July 8th BBQ. A lucky winner will receive a 20 Gauge Mossberg Pump Shotgun with hard case. Don’t forget to buy your ticket. If you have any ideas of other items you would like our lodge to raffle, please contact anyone on the executive board.

In February, I attended our State Mid-Boards in Clare, Mi and then in June, went to Kalamazoo for the State Conference. I enjoyed the experience of meeting with other lodges, and the fraternity of our other brothers and sisters. Just to let our membership know, our Lodge is held in high esteem by the State Women’s Auxiliary. We are their biggest supporters, and they let everyone know it. We won a Patch Shadow Box from their raffle, and we will display it at our July 8th BBQ. Remember we will be meeting the Second Wednesday of July.

Please support our monthly 50/50 raffle sales, as well as the State Super Raffle. Both are easy money makers for our Lodge. Our 2009 Golf Outing will be at Greystone Golf Club, Friday, September 11, 2009. More will be discussed at the next meeting.

Secretary’s Report
By William Willhite

Summer is here and I once again I am still collecting dues that were due in January (Treasurer Willis by mistake put March on the invoices). I do understand things get misplaced, so if you are one of those that have not paid, please pay. You can get in touch with any of the board members and give them a check or cash and they will get it to me and the treasurer so we can keep our records up to date. We will be sending final reminder notices soon. When it comes time to do our per capita tax again in the fall and I have not received your dues or heard from you stating that you wish to remain a member, I will be forced to suspend those that have not paid.

Talking about records, while at the State conference I was informed that some members who wish to have F.O.P. plates are having difficulties doing so due to the fact that their name does not appear on the Secretary of State’s list of F.O.P. members. It was discovered that your name that is registered with the F.O.P. has to match what is on your driver’s license. So what I am going to do is have all members e-mail me with new information so I can update all our records. If you do not have an e-mail, please snail mail it to the FOP office at P.O. Box 36, Mt. Clemens, MI. 48046. Information that I need is your name as it appears on your drivers license, address, active-retired-associate member, department you are from or retired from, phone number and an e-mail address.

The Golf outing has been set. It will again be at Greystone Golf Club in Romeo. The date will be Friday September 11th. If you are able to sponsor a hole for $100 it would be greatly appreciated. As I have mentioned before, due to the tough economic times, we aren’t looking to make this event a huge money maker thanks in part to our poker fundraisers being such a success. With that said, the price should be around $90 to $95. We will still be offering the same thing as always such as light breakfast, dogs at the turn and all the beer and pop on the course and a steak dinner. I don’t think you will find an outing like this for this price at this quality of a golf course anywhere, so let’s see if we can sell this one out. We will work hard at obtaining as many hole sponsors as we can so we can continue to provide at least the same amount of prizes as in the past. If you know of any businesses that would like to donate a raffle prize, please let me know. More information as well as a flyer will be coming shortly.

I would like to wish everyone a happy and enjoyable summer.

Treasurer’s Report
By Kenneth P. Willlis

Brothers and Sisters:

As of June 16, 2009 we have $2930.00 in 2008 member dues still outstanding. Need to say anymore?

Trustee Kapusinski and Brother Budchuk efforts have earned our lodge $12,244.59 with the three Texas Hold’Em Fundraisers. Vice President Cowan has earned our lodge $788.00 with the Television Raffle Fundraiser. President Stanley has a Gun Raffle Fundraiser going on currently. These brothers are working very hard to earn money for our lodge. Without the support of these fine individuals our goal of having a building to call home can be seen in the near future. If you have a chance please says “Thank You” to one or all of them for all of there hard work.

The Michigan Fraternal Order of Police has joined with Fund It Benefit Bar to promote Yahoo! on the internet by adding an additional toolbar to do your internet searching. By downloading and installing this toolbar the Michigan F.O.P. receives ten cents every time you initiate a search with the toolbar. There is no cost to you. If enough people participate, the Michigan F.O.P. plans on donating a percentage of the profits to the F.O.P. Foundation and to the Michigan Memorial Committee. To download the toolbar, go to www.foplodge187.org. Scroll down to the “Members” section of the page and click “Download MI Fraternal Order of Police Toolbar” and follow the simple instructions. Any problems, contact the F.O.P. State Lodge at toll free 1-888-367-6424 for assistance.

I am still collecting e-mail addresses. Each e-mail address saves our lodge $0.44. I current have 57 e-mail addresses. This saves our lodge $75.00 annually. Also, if I remember to, I send out a meeting reminder via e-mail. This reminder usually has the agenda, raffle information, and the meeting menu.

That’s All Folks!!! See you at the barbeque.
