Message From The President
By Dennis Tomlian
Brothers and Sisters:
I am much honored to have been elected president of the lodge I have an excellent executive board to assist me. I hope to live up to the excellence of our past presidents.
As president I would like to see membership grow and have our lodge more involved in community projects. One idea I discussed with the board and membership is to have a family type picnic later in the summer anyone wishing to assist with either ideas or possible locations please contact me. Past President Dan Heythaler has agreed to assist on this project so anyone else who wishes to help is more than welcome.
At the mid board meeting the State Lodge informed us that the Michigan Secretary of State has finally agreed to screen applicants for the FOP Registration Plates. You must be an active member in good standing to posses this plate. The SOS office will forward a list of names to the State FOP of individuals who are in possession of this plate if they are not on the membership roster they will be prosecuted for a misdemeanor and the plate confiscated. So I suggest if you know someone who is in possession of an FOP Plate and is not a member advising them to turn it in or join a lodge, to avoid prosecution. Associates will no longer be able to obtain this plate but those who already have one and are a member in good standing will be able to keep it.
Our 2008 State Conference was held in Bay City June 20th thru the 22. We started a new format and did not have a business session on Monday as in the past, so members who needed to be back for work were able to do so. Our own Dave Willis was elected to the position of Secretary on the State Board and Mike Lake (Warren P.D.) was re-elected District 3 Rep. We have a new State President, Judd Price of Sault Saint Marie, was elected in a very close election. Congratulations to all.
MI-COPS are part of the Charitable Recycling program for “MICHIGAN LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS MEMORIAL” they are asking you to donate your old unused cell phone and Charitable Recycling will donate $1.00 to the memorial. They just want the cell phones not chargers, car adapters or any, other accessories. We have pre-paid postage labels to place on the package. Contact a board member for labels or information. Support our fallen brothers and sisters donate an old cell phone.
Remember this is your lodge if you have any suggestions, ideas, gripes or whatever please contact me so we can discuss any issue that might come up. |
Secretary’s Report
By William Willhite
It has been an interesting learning process since being elected Secretary of the Lodge. I do have to thank Brother Dave Willis for his assistance with my duties. Unfortunately I am learning that getting people to pay their dues is the hardest part of the job. I do understand that the mailers get set aside and that the dues do slip your mind as I have been guilty of it myself in the past. I have included a list of those that I have not received payment from. The Lodge has already paid the per-capita tax to the state and national lodge for your membership, so please send your dues ($60.00) to the PO Box , or e-mail me to let me know that you are still interested in remaining a member and that a payment will be coming or if you are no longer interested being a member.
Your membership is important to us. Some have said that they don’t have the time to attend the meetings. The organization is more than just attending the meetings. The F.O.P. has a strong voice in Lansing which continually fights for Officers rights. I can speak for our Lodge that we also donate to numerous organizations throughout the county, whether it is handicap children organizations, organizations that assist the less fortunate along with other law enforcement entities that rely on fund raisers and donations to remain in existence.
According to my records the following, 66 members have not paid their dues. If this is in error, please e-mail me with a receipt number or whatever, so I can send you your card.
John Abdoo, Anthony Allegrina, Brian Avery, Jared Baker, Maria Balsama, Kelly Simmons, John Cantea, Nicholas Cieslak, Dan Cikota, Anthony Cona Jr, Anthony Cona III, Christopher Conaway, David Crabtree, Mark Dedenbach, Timothy Dickerson, Jeffery Droske, Larry Emerson, Christopher Fraser, John Friedmann, Sharron Furno, Dominic Gabriel, Mark Grammatico, Joey Harrell, Randy Hoerauf, Aaron Hurley, Gene Jankowski, Scott Jones, Dave Kennedy, Kelly Kullman, Ted Labaz, Andrea Lange, Robert Lesinski, Pete Martin, Jeffrey McPherson, Chuck Medley, Harold Mentzer, Mark Mileski, Doug Mills, Mark Morfino, Gerald Nichiow, Mark Nichiow, Mark Oermann, Mark Osos, Keith Paolella, Clarence Petrykowski, Brian Pingilley, Jeff Pintal, John Ramlow, Frederick Reid, Chris Rojem, Roger Rossbach, Ryan Ruttan, Donald Sepke, Adam Shirilla, Michael Shorky, Gary Sibears, Steve Sieradzki, Michael Smith, Anthony Szalkowski, Steve Thompson, Kevin Weldon, Blaine Winther, Ryan Wohlfield, and Amy Zmick.
If any regular or associate members have paid their dues and did not get their membership card, please e-mail me so I can get it out to you. |
Treasurer’s Report
By Kenneth P. Willlis
I know that it is a bit late but there has been so much going on. I would like to thank the members of our lodge for electing me your treasurer. I have been a member since the lodge first chartered and it is a real honor to represent all of you.
I have been working on a little house keeping. I am using a software program that the grand lodge uses to keep its finances in order. There has been some trial and error but it is working and all accounts are up to date. I am also working on getting all of our records audited before the July meeting.
We still have members of our lodge who have yet to pay the dues. If you know of someone who has not paid please ask them to pay as soon as possible. It makes it very difficult for the new secretary and me to transition into our roles and ten have to hound people for the dues that should have be paid before January 1st.
I have paid our grand lodge per capita tax and the state lodge per capita tax. We have added seven new members to our lodge but we have also dropped eight members because of lack of paying membership dues. If you do know a corrections deputy, deputy sheriff, dispatcher, or police officer who might be interested in joining the Fraternal Order of Police have them stop by one of our meetings as a guest. I am sure one of the executive board members would be willing to sit down and speak with the guest and answer any questions he or she may have.
As many of you know I am on a crusade to save our lodge money on postage. The amount just seems to be climbing just like other things…GAS!!! If you have an e-mail address please give it to me. Include you first and last name and if you are a regular, retired, or an associate member. Your newsletter or any updates about the lodge will be sent to you via e-mail. My estimate is that we can save our lodge an estimated $500.00 a year in postage.
As some of you may or may not know I am currently the webmaster of our lodge’s website. I am very happy to hear all of the positive feedback since I stated working on the site. I am always looking for ways to make the site better. If you have any ideas please speak to me and I will try to incorporate them in.
That is about it for now. We will see you at the next meeting.
